The Panthers signed former Colts DT Ed Johnson on Wednesday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Johnson was cut by the Colts in 2008 after he was arrested during a traffic stop for marijuana possession. After getting re-signed and starting the first four games of the ’09 season, Johnson was cut again by the Colts in October for what the team referred to as performance issues.

"We have done a lot of research on Ed," said Panthers GM Marty Hurney, according to the Charlotte Observer. "When we took into account what people around him said and the impression we got when meeting with him in person, we felt comfortable giving him this opportunity."
