The Falcons named Bill Musgrave assistant head coach on Tuesday.

Musgrave has served as the team's quarterbacks coach since 2006. Former secondary coach Emmitt Thomas, who was not retained after the season, served as assistant head coach from 2008-09.

"Bill has been an integral part of this coaching staff and this is a well deserved promotion," Falcons head coach Mike Smith said in a statement. "We will look to utilize his tremendous amount of coaching experience for years to come."

Musgrave has 18 years of NFL experience as a player and coach.
