Hours after the Dolphins had announced Friday that they had released Joey Porter, the outspoken outside linebacker was back on the roster. Word is the release put Miami over the league's salary cap, so they had to undo his termination.

"The release of Joey Porter was determined to be an invalid termination," the Dolphins said on their Web site. "Therefore at this time, Porter reverts back to the Miami Dolphins roster."

It is still expected that the team will release Porter before the start of free agency March 5, particularly in light of his comments critical of the organization during Super Bowl week.

The 11-year veteran originally signed with Miami as a free agent on March 7, 2007. After struggling through the ’07 season, he came back to lead the AFC in sacks in ’08 with 17½.

He started 14 games in ’09 and finished the season with 41 tackles, nine sacks and one forced fumble. He turns 33 in March. The four-time Pro Bowler played the first eight seasons of his career with the Steelers, whom he helped win Super Bowl XL.
