FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Colts head coach Jim Caldwell said Friday that DE Dwight Freeney is "trending in the right direction" as he tries to recover from a right ankle injury in time for Super Bowl XLIV, but in a common refrain, he noted that Freeney is still "day-to-day."
"He's getting better, but we'll see," Caldwell said, adding that the Colts will see "how he is at the end of the day."
The Colts' final practice is Friday afternoon, with a walk-through scheduled for Saturday.
OLG Ryan Lilja, who missed practice on Thursday with a back injury, is expected to play Sunday vs. New Orleans, Caldwell said.
"We do not foresee a problem," Caldwell said.
Caldwell disclosed that CB Jerraud Powers had surgery on his injured foot sometime after the AFC title game. Powers missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday.
"He feels that he'll be able to play," Caldwell said. "That's kind of up to the doctors and ourselves obviously as we look at him and see what type of movement skills that he has."
Overall, Caldwell has liked his team's preparation this week.
"I think our guys have been extremely attentive," he said. "They've focused in, I think, on the little things the last couple of days, and so we need a couple more days of good focus."
