Key decisions lie ahead for Chargers' Smith

Maybe more so than any team in the league, the Chargers have a number of critical decisions to make this offseason. First and foremost, though, is choosing which of their many key free agents they wish to keep — either long-term or on a one-year deal — and whom they are going to let leave. The way we hear it, GM A.J. Smith's most likely strategy will be to assign a value to each of his free agents, then adjust from there based on offers the players receive from other teams. If another club is willing to greatly outbid San Diego for someone or give up high draft picks for him, odds are the fairly conservative Smith will allow that player to walk. We're told the two guys the Bolts almost certainly won't let get away are OLT Marcus McNeill and WR Vincent Jackson. Both are seen as offensive cogs and could be franchised if a multi-year contract can't be worked out.
