The Eagles have hired longtime NFL coach Dick Jauron as a senior assistant/DB coach, the team confirmed Wednesday.

Jauron has 25 years of experience coaching in the NFL, including 10 as a head coach — in Chicago (1999-2003), Detroit (five games at the end of '05) and Buffalo (2006-09). He was fired by the Bills after nine games this season.

In 2001, his third season guiding the Bears, PFW and The Associated Press both named him Coach of the Year. The Bears' defense that season ranked first in the NFL in fewest points allowed (180) and second in rushing defense (1,313 yards allowed). They also accumulated five second-half come-from-behind victories and posted an 8-0 record in games decided by seven points or fewer.

He reunites with Eagles head coach Andy Reid, with whom he coached in Green Bay from 1992-94 when Mike Holmgren was the Packers' head coach.
