The Dolphins announced Monday that Dawn Aponte has been hired as their senior vice president of football operations.

Aponte replaces Matt Thomas, who left Miami to become the Browns' VP of football administration. Last season in Cleveland, she held the job that Thomas just accepted.

Aponte will report to GM Jeff Ireland and executive VP of football operations Bill Parcells, and her duties will include managing the salary cap, player contracts and budgets. Aponte also becomes Miami's liaison on league affairs, according to a press release from the team.

Before joining the Browns, Aponte spent three years serving on the league's management council as VP of labor finance. She worked for the Jets for 15 years before moving on to the league office.
