Vikings CB Cedric Griffin will undergo surgery on his left knee in the next week, casting some doubt about his availability for the beginning of next season.

Griffin, who was hurt covering the overtime kickoff in the Vikings' 31-28 OT loss at the Louisiana Superdome last Sunday, is expected to require 6-9 months of rehabilitation, although the Vikings didn't reveal the nature and extent of the injury.

A four-year player, Griffin has started all but one game over the past three seasons. His play was instrumental to the Vikings' secondary while fellow starting CB Antoine Winfield missed nearly two months with a fractured right foot. Griffin led the team with four interceptions.
