First in a series of player reports during Senior Bowl week.
QB Tim Tebow
Ht: 6-3 | Wt: 230 | 40-time: 4.8 (all estimated)
Upside: Exceptionally tough, rugged competitor with outstanding leadership qualities. Rare work ethic, drive and determination. Can deliver the ball with touch. Clutch performer. Physical runner — drops his shoulder and barrels through contact. Plays through pain. Workout warrior.
Downside: Has inconsistent passing mechanics with a hitch that will be difficult to correct, consistently dropping the ball low (down to his thigh pad) with a slow, elongated delivery. Operated out of a simplified passing game that seldom required working through progressions and often allowed predetermined 1-2 reads to be made. Is too jittery when he is forced to cycle through his reads and tends to run at the second flash of coverage or force the ball. Footwork will require considerable refinement. Not a decisive triggerman. Not an elusive or creative runner.
The way we see it: A big, strong, physical southpaw with the mental toughness, desire and intelligence desired in a front-line player, Tebow is not a natural passer, will require significant development time and could wind up bringing more immediate value and long-term potential to a team in an H-back role, where he could use his overpowering strength to fight for yardage after the catch.
