In a clear signal the Steelers are looking to upgrade their coverage units after having major problems on kickoff returns last season, the Steelers signed Winnipeg Blue Bombers LB Derrick Doggett on Jan. 19. The 6-foot, 210-pound Doggett notched 27 special-teams tackles for the Blue Bombers last season, and CFL insiders surveyed by PFW this week noted his tenacity covering kicks. Special teams will be Doggett's ticket onto the roster in Pittsburgh: he didn't play regularly on defense in Winnipeg, he's on the small side for an inside linebacker in a 3-4 defense, and he's a little stiff in the hips. However, Doggett has good straight-line speed, and he relishes running down on kicks, from all accounts. Doggett, 25, played collegiately at Oregon State. After going undrafted in 2008, Doggett signed with the CFL's Edmonton Eskimos before eventually landing with the Blue Bombers.

PFW has launched its brand-new NFL Draft Newsletter series, with the second issue now ready for mailing and a third issue focusing on underclassmen to be published in the next few weeks. Produced by PFW's player personnel department under the direction of Nolan Nawrocki, the series consists of four information-packed issues.
