The biggest question facing the Giants this offseason likely is going to be who will line up at middle linebacker. Antonio Pierce? Jonathan Goff? A free agent? Draft pick? None of this is known right now, but it would be specious to assume that the Giants simply will cut Pierce, who is coming off a serious neck injury, and hand the job to Goff without some kind of competition. Goff started out well when he got the chance to replace Pierce, an instinctive leader and playmaker when healthy, but Goff struggled down the stretch and hasn't shown enough to be handed the job. The draft, which in recent years has lacked star quality at inside linebacker, could be a potential source for competition. Although Alabama's Rolando McClain might be off the board before the Giants pick at 15 in Round One, Penn State's Sean Lee and Florida's Brandon Spikes could be viable second-round options who make some sense.
