TE Tony Scheffler's career with the Broncos is apparently nearing its conclusion. Scheffler wasn't happy about having his role reduced in first-year head coach Josh McDaniels' offense, and tensions boiled over at the end of the season when Scheffler was benched in Week 17 and not allowed to join his teammates on the Denver sideline. The fourth-year veteran didn't hide his disgust with McDaniels in comments he made to the media after the season. He will become a restricted free agent in March, unless a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is in place, and the Broncos are expected to issue him a tender to keep him from leaving the team without it receiving compensation in return for his services. Another club will be able to sign Scheffler, who had 31 catches and a career-low two touchdowns in 2009, to an offer sheet and will have to part with a draft pick, or picks, depending on the level at which he is tendered. Teams may be inclined to wait out the Broncos, knowing they're likely to cut ties with Scheffler, and Denver could have difficulty finding a suitor willing to match its initial asking price for the player.
