Adding receivers will be one of Panthers’ top offseason tasks

Who is going to be playing wide receiver for the Panthers in 2010? Steve Smith is obviously a lock to return as the team's top target, but aside from that, Carolina's cupboard is pretty bare at the position. Fourteen-year veteran Muhsin Muhammad's performance declined in '09, and he will be a free agent this offseason. He's apparently not going to retire just yet, but it's unlikely he'll be back with the Panthers. There were reports earlier in the season that the team might even consider dumping Dwayne Jarrett, who has been a major disappointment. He's made 33 catches in three seasons since the team spent a second-round pick on him. The only other receivers on the roster other than the aforementioned trio are bit players like Kenneth Moore and undrafted rookie Charly Martin. The Panthers have been looking for a playmaking receiver to complement Smith for years, and that search will resume in 2010.
