Although the Steelers' problems covering kickoffs played a role in their inability to make it back to the playoffs (and also likely played a role in the firing of special-teams coach Bob Ligashesky), the club did get some solid performances in the kicking game. PK Jeff Reed hit 27-of-31 field-goal attempts, including 23-of-24 in the final 13 games, erasing some early-season concerns about his accuracy. Though kickoffs are not Reed's forte — his 59.8 yard average was his lowest since 2002, his first season in Pittsburgh — his reliability on field goals won't hurt his market value as he enters free agency. P Daniel Sepulveda averaged a respectable 37.1 net yards on 72 punts and has room to develop further as he enters his fourth NFL season. Also, Stefan Logan was a pleasant surprise on kickoff returns, averaging 26.7 yards. Logan must cut down on his fumbles, and he is not a top game-breaking threat, but he gives the Steelers a proven option at a key position.
