The Panthers announced Thursday that special-teams coach Danny Crossman will not be retained for the 2010 season.

Crossman had served as head coach John Fox's special-teams coach since 2005 and reportedly had one year remaining on his contract, but Carolina's special-teams units did not perform well in ’09. The Panthers ranked 31st in kickoff-return average and 26th in net punting average. Carolina finished 29th in opponent punt-return average and ranked 30th in opponent kickoff-return average.

Earlier this week Panthers QB coach Rip Scherer turned down an opportunity to become the offensive coordinator at the University of Virginia to remain on Fox's staff.
