For the Ravens' special teams, it's been an up-and-down season. First, the good news: The Ravens were second in the NFL in kickoff-return average (26.2). Also, Baltimore finished in the top 10 in opponent punt- and kickoff-return average. Now, the bad news: Field goals for the Ravens have too often been an adventure. Steve Hauschka struggled and was released in November, and replacement Billy Cundiff hit just 12-of-17 field-goal attempts in the regular season. Both of Cundiff's misses in the season finale at Oakland, however, came after inaccurate snaps from LS Matt Katula that P Sam Koch, the holder, did well to place down. Katula, who has battled tendinitis in his right elbow, figures to get every chance to be the long-snapper going forward, the way we hear it, and Cundiff has also done well in the Ravens' estimation, we're told. But like last season, the Ravens have had more problems than expected converting field goals.
