Although the Chargers' last loss — way back in Week Six — came after a bye, the team isn't worried about history repeating itself following its week off before the divisional playoff round. From what we hear, head coach Norv Turner and crew are using this bye as an opportunity not only to work on things that might need fixing but also to give banged-up players a break. "This is a different type of bye week," Turner said. "I think our guys understand that we are going to give them some rest, but this bye week is about doing some extra work in terms of preparation." Having the bye at this juncture is key because some of San Diego's top contributors are nicked up. WR Vincent Jackson (Achilles) and OLB Shawne Merriman (foot) are both getting time off this week to be at 100 percent for the playoff contest, while FS Eric Weddle (knee) and FB Jacob Hester (shoulder) are lightly practicing to get back to full strength.
