A day after the Giants fired defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan, the team made another coaching move.

DL coach Mike Wauffle, who coached one of the better units in the NFL in 2007 and '08, was relieved of his duties Wednesday following the Giants' disappointing defensive performance this season.

Wauffle joined head coach Tom Coughlin's staff in 2004, and he previously worked six years with the Raiders. In '07 he led a group, headlined by Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora and Michael Strahan, that collected 53 sacks and helped defeat the previously unbeaten Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

But since then, the sack totals dipped to 43 last season and to 32 this year, when the Giants allowed 427 points and allowed 15 more rushing yards per game than in '08.
