It's finally time to produce a list of the fantasy football MVPs for the 2009 season, along with THE single most valuable player. And the winner is (drum roll) ...

Oh, for goodness' sakes, Chris Johnson heads the list. Was there any doubt? I mean, c'mon, look at the season this dude is having:

1. Chris Johnson — Fantasy owners who drafted Johnson hit the jackpot, and in some leagues he was there for the taking near the end of the first round, or even later. I'm in a league that drafted after the Thursday-night season opener between the Titans and Steelers, and with Johnson rushing for a mere 57 yards and zero TDs in that game, he fell to 13th overall in our draft. After sharing carries with LenDale White last season, Johnson has thus far amassed 369 touches (vs. last year's 294), and he's done massive damage thanks to the increased workload. He's scored 14 TDs, he's just 128 yards short of the 2,000-yard rushing mark, and with 2,355 rushing-receiving yards so far and a game remaining against the inept Seahawks, he's well within reach of the combined-yardage milestone of 2,500. That's some rarified air, friends. Also amazing is that Johnson had but a single 100-yard rushing performance in his first five games and has since run off 10 straight. That's remarkable consistency, and it's led to a historic season for this jet-propelled running back.

2. Adrian Peterson — It's almost inconceivable that Peterson could finish behind someone on this list while bettering his 2008 numbers. Peterson has already established a new career high with 17 TDs, and while his rushing yardage is down from last year, a significant bump in receiving yardage leaves him only 121 yards short of last season's combined-yardage total of 1,885 yards. Although he hasn't had a 100-yard rushing game since mid-November, only once in his last six games has A.P. failed to churn out at least 98 rushing-receiving yards. And in the critical Weeks 14-16, Peterson piled up five touchdowns, giving his fantasy owners at least one score in each of those weeks. This cat is still money in the bank.

3. Maurice Jones-Drew — MJD did not disappoint his fantasy owners in his first full year as the Jaguars' starter. His combined-yardage total (1,677) and rushing-TD total (15) were career highs. Jones-Drew also had some nice games for his owners down the stretch, particularly a 140-yard, two-TD performance against the Colts in Week 15 that MJD owners will long remember.

4. Aaron Rodgers — It should be interesting to see where Rodgers lands on the preseason draft boards of fantasy owners next year. The Green Bay quarterback is on the cusp of beating long preseason odds to finish as the top-scoring quarterback ahead of Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. He's tied for third in passing TDs (29) this season, ranks fifth in passing yardage (4,199) and, for those who play in leagues that penalize interceptions, is tied for the fewest interceptions among QBs who have at least 250 passing attempts. He also leads all quarterbacks with 314 rushing yards, and his four rushing TDs also lead all QBs. Rodgers' Week 15 performance, in which he threw for 383 yards and three TDs and also ran for a TD, put a lot of his owners into championship games.

5. Andre Johnson — You could make a good case for either Drew Brees or Ray Rice meriting this spot. However, Brees fell somewhat flat in the critical Weeks 15 and 16, throwing two TD passes in those weeks and failing to produce a 300-yard passing game, and while Rice is on the verge of going over 2,000 combined yards, his relatively small TD total (eight) didn't make much of a splash for his owners in leagues that downplay yardage. Johnson had a lousy Week One (35 yards, 0 TDs) but has had at least 62 receiving yards in every week since. He has 1,504 receiving yards and nine TDs to make him the top-scoring wide receiver, and he's been golden down the stretch, with 32 receptions for 559 yards and four TDs over his last four games (including consecutive 190-yard-plus games in Weeks 14 and 15).
