With Charles Woodson looking like a lock for Defensive Player of the Year honors in the eyes of many league observers, it's been easy to overlook just how well teammate and fellow 2008 Pro Bowler Nick Collins has also been playing lately. With a fair amount of money under the cap remaining after signing LB Brandon Chillar to a four-year, $21 million contract extension earlier this week, it would not be a shock if the Packers suddenly decided to also reward Collins, who is in the final year of a contract that became an issue this past offseason, with a new deal. Whether they do or not, it doesn't figure to faze Collins, who has opted to be a good soldier and put his contract concerns on the back burner. Team insiders tell us first-year safeties coach Darren Perry, who had similar contract issues during his nine-year career as a solid safety mostly with the Steelers, is in part responsible for convincing Collins to focus solely on his game and worry about his contract later.
