It's difficult to find fault lately with the play of the Chargers, who have reeled off eight straight victories to take command of the AFC West. But one area of the team that has struggled a bit has been the pass defense, which has allowed 496 yards with five TDs and zero interceptions the last two weeks. From what we hear, it's been a combination of shuffling in the secondary and inexperience at safety that has caused this drop-off. For one, Steve Gregory has been forced to play out of position at free safety with Eric Weddle (knee) sidelined. Also, rookie Kevin Ellison is still learning the ropes at strong safety, having only six pro starts under his belt. We're told that while Ellison has done well against the run and rushing the passer, he's had issues in coverage and still needs work on that aspect of his game. Overall, though, he's been serviceable and has proven to be an upgrade over Clinton Hart.
