Looking for the best players to target on the waiver wire this week? Well, the Fantasy Ticker is just the place for that. Here are the top pickups for Week 14, as well as a key player to trade for and one you may want to quickly unload.
HOT PURCHASES
These players should be free agents in many leagues. Pounce on them if you can.
Broncos RB Correll Buckhalter (owned in 33 percent of Yahoo! leagues)
After playing well to start the season, Buckhalter faded for an extended period, but he's back to being a contributor once again. After getting 20 carries (for 51 yards) in Week 12, the veteran exploded for 113 yards on 12 attempts against the Chiefs Sunday, looking spry as ever. Although Knowshon Moreno will continue to get more carries and be the primary goal-line option, Buckhalter should get at least a dozen touches per game as both a runner and receiver. With soft run defenses coming up the next two weeks in Indy and Oakland, Buckhalter could have surprising value during the fantasy playoffs.
Browns RB Jerome Harrison (11 percent owned)
With Jamal Lewis out for the season after being placed on injured reserve last week, it looks like Harrison will be the prime beneficiary of his absence. Harrison led the team with 10 carries Sunday vs. the Chargers, and although he ran for only 35 yards, he made a huge impact in the passing game, catching seven passes for 62 yards and two TDs. The presence of Chris Jennings means that Harrison won't take on a full workload, but his versatility makes him a safe bet to lead the Browns in touches most weeks. After a brutal matchup with the Steelers Thursday, Harrison has tasty opponents in the Chiefs and Raiders up next, so grab him now.
Titans WR Kenny Britt (25 percent owned)
A popular pickup early in the season, Britt was dumped by most owners after a severe slowdown. But it's time to go get him again. Coinciding with the improvement of QB Vince Young, Britt has been terrific in his last three contests, catching a TD pass in each one and averaging 72 yards in that span. It's clear that he is Young's go-to wideout, and with the Titans' offense playing well, there's no reason why the rookie's production should drop off. With favorable games against the Rams and Dolphins coming up next, Britt makes for a fine addition.
Redskins WR Devin Thomas (2 percent owned)
The most highly touted receiver in the 2008 draft, Thomas didn't do a whole lot in the first year and a half of his career, but he showed up in a big way Sunday. Helping the Redskins force overtime against the undefeated Saints, Thomas caught seven passes for 100 yards and two TDs, both of which came in the red zone. A big, physical target, the Michigan State product seems to have earned the trust of QB Jason Campbell around the goal line, meaning he could be the recipient of more scoring passes before season's end. With Washington's passing game improving, Thomas is worth snagging in larger leagues, as this performance might not have been a fluke.
BUY LOW
Here's a player who has underperformed thus far and seen his value drop. Trade for him before it's too late.
Jaguars WR Mike Sims-Walker
Coming off a down outing in Week 12, Sims-Walker hit rock bottom Sunday, catching just one pass for 12 yards. But a lot of this had to do with the Jaguars' game plan, as they weren't forced to air it out much in this one. That won't be the case, however, going forward, as they'll be facing teams that are just as good or better than they are. With games against the Dolphins, Colts and Patriots coming up, Jacksonville will have to pass often to keep up, meaning numerous opportunities for Sims-Walker to make plays. The wideout is having a breakout season, and he should finish it strong. Go get him now.
SELL HIGH
Deal this guy for productive players now, because his value is about to fall off.
Bears RB Matt Forté
Although Forté had an impressive game against the Rams Sunday, rushing for 91 yards and a TD on 24 carries, he would qualify as a good "sell high" guy just based on his overall poor performance in 2009. But this has more to do with his upcoming schedule than anything else. The Bears have probably the toughest fantasy playoff slate of any team in the league, taking on the Packers, Ravens and Vikings the next three weeks. With horrible matchups like those ahead, it's very unlikely Forté puts up these sort of numbers again, so this is an ideal time to get as much as possible for the Chicago back.
