Looking for the best players to target on the waiver wire this week? Well, the Fantasy Ticker is just the place for that. Here are the top pickups for Week 13, as well as a key player to trade for and one you may want to quickly unload.
HOT PURCHASES
These players should be free agents in many leagues. Pounce on them if you can.
Titans QB Vince Young (owned in 24 percent of Yahoo! leagues)
Ever since Young took over the Titans' starting job this season, all he's done is win — five consecutive games to be exact. And while leading his troops on this winning streak, he has put up fairly solid numbers in the process, with no outing better than his performance Sunday against the Cardinals, in which Young threw for a career-high 387 yards and a TD in a comeback victory. Although he's not prolific enough to be a weekly starter, Young can provide just enough through the air to be effective while chipping in yardage on the ground, giving him good all-around value. With a couple good matchups still left, he's definitely worth adding as a backup.
Texans RB Chris Brown (4 percent owned)
Left for dead after some early-season issues, Brown has re-emerged in the past two weeks to take on a sizable role in the Texans' backfield. With Ryan Moats seemingly demoted after two games of heavy workloads, Brown has stepped in to carry the ball 11 times in each of the past two contests, running for 92 yards and a TD. While Brown isn't going to be a bell cow while splitting carries almost evenly with Steve Slaton, his size makes him Houston's preferred goal-line and short-yardage option, so he has a chance to score every game. At this point, he's likely one of the more valuable backs left on the waiver wire.
Buccaneers WR Antonio Bryant (47 percent owned)
A relatively early pick in most fantasy drafts, Bryant was a nightmare to own for most of this season, dealing with a lingering knee injury and not producing when on the field. This caused him to be dropped in more than half of all leagues, which is good news for anyone looking for a receiver this week. Bryant finally appears to be over his knee problems, and he had an explosive game Sunday, catching three passes for 91 yards and a TD at Atlanta. With rookie QB Josh Freeman needing a dependable target he can count on, Bryant could have another game or two like this before the season is over. Just know that he has tough matchups over the next two weeks.
Eagles WR Jason Avant (6 percent owned)
Although he hasn't been noticed as much as the Eagles' other breakout offensive players, Avant has had a very solid last few games. After blowing up for 8-156-0 in Week 10, he followed it up with a TD grab last week, then finished with five catches for 94 yards in Sunday's game with the Redskins. He basically has taken over as Philly's main slot receiver, a good place to be for a team that throws this often. With DeSean Jackson suffering a concussion Sunday that could force him to miss time, it's possible that Avant could see his role grow next week, making him a worth a pickup this week.
BUY LOW
Here's a player who has underperformed thus far and seen his value drop. Trade for him before it's too late.
Seahawks WR Nate Burleson
After starting out the season like a house of fire, Burleson's numbers have cooled off lately. He caught no passes it Week 10, had a nice 6-100-0 performance in Week 11 and then cashed in a 4-46-0 dud Sunday in a great matchup with the Rams. But Burleson is still QB Matt Hasselbeck's go-to wideout, and the Seahawks have an upcoming schedule that should allow them to post nice passing stats, facing the 49ers, Texans and Bucs over the next three weeks. Look for Burleson to bounce back strong during the fantasy home stretch, making him a nice guy to get while his value is low.
SELL HIGH
Deal this guy for productive players now, because his value is about to fall off.
Packers WR Donald Driver
At age 34, Driver is playing more like he's 24, putting together a vintage campaign. He had his best outing of the season Thursday at Detroit, grabbing seven balls for 142 yards and a score. But that was against the Lions — Green Bay's matchups won't be anywhere near as favorable in the coming weeks. For their next three games, the Packers have to face the Ravens, Bears and Steelers, all pass defenses that rank in the top half of the league. Although Driver won't totally tank in these contests, he also won't excel like he did this week, meaning his value is almost guaranteed to drop. This might be your best chance to sell high.
