Panthers FS Charles Godfrey finally appears to be in good health again after missing four games to recover from a high ankle sprain he suffered on Oct. 25, but we hear he likely won't be taking back his old starting role when he returns. Godfrey will need time to get comfortable after a lengthy lay-off and rookie Sherrod Martin has impressed coaches filling in at free safety. Word is he will keep the top job. Martin, a second-round pick, has made three interceptions since moving into the starting lineup. While Godfrey's role may change significantly after starting the first 22 games of his career at free safety, he isn't going to be completely cast aside, sources say. The Panthers may split up the workload at both safety positions, since SS Chris Harris hasn't exactly impressed this season, and Godfrey, a third-round pick in 2008, and Carolina could experiment with playing Godfrey and Martin at the same time.
