First in opponent kickoff-return average in 2008, the Steelers have been much, much worse covering kicks this season. Pittsburgh has surrendered touchdowns on three kickoffs in 2009 and, entering Week 11, was allowing almost seven yards more per return than it did in '08. Some have pointed to PK Jeff Reed's kickoffs, which are among the NFL's shortest on average, as part of the problem, but head coach Mike Tomlin said that Reed's kicks have been "adequate." The veteran kicker has handled kickoffs throughout his tenure with the Steelers. Pittsburgh made a minor change to the kickoff coverage unit, releasing LB Arnold Harrison and signing second-year LB Donovan Woods from the practice squad, and Tomlin said the team is looking at a variety of personnel and schematic changes to improve the group.
