When team insiders saw Spencer Havner lining up at tight end back in August, they thought it was a complete joke. But after watching him emerge from the woodwork to register four TD catches in a four-game span and solidify the TE position while Jermichael Finley was battling a knee injury, nobody is laughing anymore. Havner, who was on the practice squad for 2½ years primarily as a linebacker, has made the most of his opportunity to display his wares on offense, continually opening eyes with his surprising playmaking ability and natural feel for the game. In addition, Havner has made his presence very much felt on a regular basis on special teams, having been heralded by special-teams coach Shawn Slocum as the unit's best performer in its best effort of the season by far in the huge Week 10 victory over the Cowboys. Even with Finley fully healthy again, we hear Havner has earned the opportunity to remain in the offensive mix.

PFW has launched its brand-new NFL Draft Newsletter series, with the second issue being released later this month.
