All should be well if you have Cardinals rookie RB Beanie Wells in your starting lineup this Sunday against a Rams defense that allowed a season-worst 203 rushing yards last week. Wells had career highs of 16 rushing attempts and 85 rushing yards in an impressive two-TD outing against Seattle last week that included a career-long run of 29 yards and a career-long catch of 23 yards. In his last four games, he has 51-271-3 rushing (5.3 YPC).
With Julius Jones (bruised lung and possible cracked rib) sidelined for the Seahawks this Sunday, the diminutive Justin Forsett will have another shot at fantasy success after a breakout 17-carry, 123-yard effort last week against a normally tough Arizona run defense. Forsett also had an 11-yard TD scamper, and both he and former Raider Louis Rankin (3-24-0) are worth keeping a close eye on down the stretch.
Rams RB Steven Jackson will be trying to continue his fantasy hot streak (26-131-1 vs. the Saints last week) against an Arizona run defense that allowed 164 yards rushing against Seattle last week. Jackson has run for more than 100 yards in three straight games.
The good news is that Niners RB Frank Gore is very well rested after gaining 104 yards rushing, scoring a TD and catching four passes for 21 yards last Thursday against the Bears. The bad news is that this weekend he faces a Packers run defense that allowed Dallas only 14-61-0 rushing last week.
Packers RB Ryan Grant (19-79-0 rushing last week) came very close to breaking an 81-yard TD run against the Cowboys in Week 10.
Don't look now, but Colts RB Joseph Addai has very quietly scored a touchdown per game (six rushing, three receiving). Addai has a TD both running and receiving in each of the last two games.
Falcons RB Michael Turner is expected to miss at least one game with an ankle sprain, and Jerious Norwood is unlikely to return this week from a hip injury, which leaves Jason Snelling as Atlanta's featured back. Owners rushed to the waiver wire to pick him up after Turner went down, but if he's still available in some leagues, owners that need help at running back should snag Snelling. Snelling is a power back and will handle goal-line carries for Atlanta against the Giants' suspect run defense. He's a good option in leagues of 12 teams or more.
Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams was held out of practice to rest his knee, which has given him problems recently, but he's expected to play Thursday night vs. the Dolphins. Miami has been fairly stout against the run, ranking seventh, but Williams is an every-week fantasy starter and should be in lineups.
Jonathan Stewart practiced on Wednesday after missing Tuesday's session with a heel injury and will play vs. the Dolphins. He's only worth considering for a start in leagues of 12 teams or more, however.
Saints RB Pierre Thomas gained just 37 yards on 11 carries last week vs. the Rams, but he should be much more productive on Sunday vs. the Buccaneers' run defense, which is ranked second-to-last in the league. Thomas should bounce back nicely against Tampa Bay and is a good start in all formats.
Raiders RB Michael Bush rushed for a season-high 119 yards last week against the Chiefs, but he's not a good play vs. the Bengals. Cincinnati is ranked second against the run and has allowed just four rushing TDs. Keep Bush on the bench along with Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden.
Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown was placed on injured reserve this week with a foot injury, bringing his season to an end, so it's safe to drop him. Ricky Williams will take over as the triggerman in the "Wildcat" offense and will see the bulk of the carries for Miami. RB Lex Hilliard is expected to get involved in the offense with Brown sidelined, but don't rush to pick him up. The first-year player has yet to carry the ball and it's best to play wait-and-see with him. Williams may ultimately prove to be less effective on his own than he was with Brown, but he's a decent start this week in leagues of 12 teams or more against Carolina's 25th-ranked run defense.
Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles had a breakout performance last week at Oakland, rushing for 103 yards and a TD on 18 attempts. However, don't expect a repeat of those numbers this Sunday when he takes on the Steelers. Pittsburgh boasts the league's No. 1 run defense, allowing a mere 69.3 yards per game and surrendering two TD runs all season. With K.C. also likely to be playing from behind, Charles and Kolby Smith look like poor fantasy bets in Week 11.
Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson had his best game of the 2009 campaign last week vs. the Eagles, running for 96 yards and two TDs on 24 carries. It's been a very slow season for L.T., but this outing should at least give his owners some confidence. He faces a Broncos team this Sunday that he had moderate success against in Week Six (18-70-0 rushing, 3-30-0 receiving), so he should be safe to insert into fantasy lineups.
Bengals RB Cedric Benson (strained hip flexor) missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, opening the door for rookie Bernard Scott to see an increase in carries Sunday at Oakland. Ex-Chiefs RB Larry Johnson could get some work, too, but expect Scott to be the primary beneficiary if Benson is out. One more note: Don't be surprised if Johnson gets a few more carries than you might expect. Benson got 10 carries compared to then-starter Chris Perry's 13 carries in Benson's Bengals debut vs. Dallas in October 2008. The Raiders have surrendered 14 rushing TDs this season, making Scott an intriguing play and possibly making Johnson a decent pickup if you desperately need a back.
Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall is a solid play against a Kansas City defense surrendering 141.3 rushing yards and one rushing TD per game. He's poised to bounce back after a tough game against a rugged Cincinnati defense.
Browns RB Chris Jennings received seven carries in Week 10, perhaps signaling he'll be a bigger part of the offense in the weeks to come. He doesn't merit a waiver claim just yet, but keep an eye on how the Browns use him in upcoming games.
The Patriots' RB situation is interesting. Although Laurence Maroney appeared to be the guy going forward after the win over the Titans, he has fallen back some and really got into the coaches' doghouse for his endzone fumble against the Colts. With Sammy Morris healthy, it appears, and Kevin Faulk coming off one of his better rushing efforts of the season, it would shock no one if these two players get more chances over Maroney this weekend against the Jets.
Redskins RB Clinton Portis has been called "very doubtful" by head coach Jim Zorn, meaning it's likely the Ladell Betts show again. But beware: The Cowboys are solid against the run (10th in yards allowed, 11th in yards per carry) and have allowed only four rushing TDs all season.
Cowboys RB Marion Barber's thumb appears fine again, and the coaches have taken a lot of heat this week for not running more in the loss to Green Bay. Expect a diverse Cowboys rushing attack led by Barber, Tashard Choice and Felix Jones against a Redskins run defense that ranks 24th in yards allowed and has been gashed at times the past three games.
Eagles RB Brian Westbrook is out for the foreseeable future, leaving the ball to LeSean McCoy and, to a lesser extent, Leonard Weaver and Eldra Buckley. The latter two are not considered great fantasy options, but McCoy, who was almost invisible last week when the Eagles chose to abandon the run, should have more chances Sunday against a Bears defense ranked 21st against the run.
The Bills run "D" is horrendous, allowing a league-worst 173 rushing yards per game. Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew was fed the ball 24 times for 123 yards and a TD last week against the Jets stout defense, including the first five plays of the game. Expect M.J.D. to be even more involved against the Bills. He should be in line for another big day, and hopefully he won't be taking a knee at the 1-yard line again.
