Unless the Bears stage a dramatic turnaround the remainder of this season, it seems a virtual certainty that somebody on Lovie Smith's coaching staff will end up being a scapegoat with a pink slip in hand at the end of the season. The most likely victim, according to team insiders, is offensive coordinator Ron Turner, considering the well-documented struggles of QB Jay Cutler and pretty much his entire supporting cast. "He's the guy who is under the microscope more than anybody," said one team insider of Turner, who is in the final year of his contract. "Then again, if the offense starts to play well again, it could be a tough call. And if they do decide to let him go, who are they going to get to replace him? Who's going to want to come here with Lovie probably having only a one-year window?" As for staff members who could follow Turner out the door, one very strong possibility would be offensive line coach Harry Heistand, who entered the organization in a package deal with Turner.
