Jets head coach Rex Ryan might have recently learned a lesson about building a staff. Ryan dismissed defensive line coach Kerry Locklin on Nov. 16, but we hear Locklin put off players and lost some of his authority before he was let go. Locklin and Ryan are friends from way back, as the two coached together at Morehead State from 1990-93. Sources say Locklin, who had never coached in the NFL until this year, did not mesh with pro players and some complained that he was treating them as if they were still in college. We hear Locklin also was responsible, in part, for substitution issues on the D-line that resulted in the team having to burn timeouts in order to get the proper personnel on the field. Defensive assistant Jeff Weeks and pass-rushing instructor Chuck Smith were tapped to take over for Locklin, but we're told they had been handling a good portion of the job's duties already.

PFW has launched its brand-new NFL Draft Newsletter series, with the second issue being released later this month. Produced by PFW's player personnel department under the direction of Nolan Nawrocki, the series consists of four information-packed issues.
