The Bengals signed ex-Chiefs RB Larry Johnson on Tuesday, multiple media outlets reported.
Johnson, who turns 30 on Thursday, will join Bernard Scott and Brian Leonard as reserves in the Bengals' backfield behind starter Cedric Benson. Johnson rushed for 377 yards on 132 carries in seven games with Kansas City this season. He was suspended by the Chiefs, then later released, after a pair of incidents in which he made gay slurs.
Johnson, who has rushed for 6,015 yards and 55 TDs in seven NFL seasons, would be the Bengals' No. 4 running back if signed, head coach Marvin Lewis said Monday. Benson has a hip flexor injury but has said he wants to play in Cincinnati's Week 11 game at Oakland on Sunday. If Benson can't go, Scott would likely get the start.
