OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chris Johnson / RB / Tennessee Titans
In rushing for 132 yards in the Titans' 41-17 win against the Bills, Chris Johnson joined Hall of Famer Jim Brown in 1963 and Vikings RB Adrian Peterson in 2007 as the only backs in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards and average 6.4 yards per carry thought their teams' first nine games in a season. Johnson leads the NFL with 1,091 rushing yards and is gaining 6.4 yards per carry. He also caught nine passes for 100 yards in the game, helping the once-winless Titans rebound from an awful start to earn their third consecutive win. Is he the NFL's best back, given his amazing run? Johnson's postgame take: "I've got great confidence, so I would say I'm the best back in the league. But that's not my situation to argue about that. I have to go out on the field and prove that and let other people say who's the best back."
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Charles Woodson / CB / Green Bay Packers
Charles Woodson had a game for the ages Sunday - when his team needed it most. Facing a soaring Cowboys team, and with his own team's defense having allowed 38 points in each of the previous two games, Woodson spearheaded a spirited Packers "D" with nine tackles, two for losses, one sack, two forced fumbles and one interception — a diving grab in front of his own endzone and the waiting arms of Cowboys TE Jason Witten — with the Pack protecting a 17-0 lead late. Said Witten, "They put Woodson on me and I couldn't get off him." Added defensive coordinator Dom Capers: "It was one of the better games I've seen a defensive player play."
SPECIAL-TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bernard Scott / KR / Cincinnati Bengals
Bernard Scott became the latest Bengal Come Lately to push this surprising team to 7-2 and 5-0 in the division with a shocking season sweep over the world-champion Steelers. Faced with the lead RB duties once Cedric Benson left the game with a hip injury and asked to kick-start his team's kickoff-return production when he was handed that job, Scott took only the fourth KR attempt of his pro career back 96 yards for the only touchdown in a crucial 18-12 win in Pittsburgh. Scott also chipped in with 33 rushing yards in the second half on 13 carries and added a 21-yard reception. Not bad work for a seventh-round pick few had heard of before HBO's "Hard Knocks" last summer.
