On the heels of his five-interception game in a 10-6 defeat at San Francisco Thursday night, Bears QB Jay Cutler was fined $20,000 by the league for abusive conduct toward a game official last Sunday.
In the 41-21 loss to Arizona last week, Cutler had words with referee Ed Hochuli after throwing an incomplete pass, evidently believing that a pass-interference penalty should have been called. Cutler was penalized 15 yards after the play.
The NFL also fined Bears DT Tommie Harris $7,500 for punching Cardinals OG Deuce Lutui on the fourth play of the game against Arizona. Harris was penalized and ejected from the game. He later apologized for the incident.
Player fines collected by the league have been used to support retired player programs, including the NFL Player Care Foundation and NFLPA Players Assistance Trust, disaster relief programs and other charities.
