Bengals RB Cedric Benson got enough work in the first half of the season to be on pace for 396 carries, which would shatter the club record of 361 set by Rudi Johnson in 2004. Considering Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis has said he has had no qualms with using Benson this heavily — and that Johnson received at least 337 carries in each season from 2004-06, when he was healthy and the club's undisputed featured back — expect Benson to keep getting a lot of work down the stretch. Rookie Bernard Scott (16 carries in eight games) will spell Benson occassionally, as will pass-catching back Brian Leonard (19 catches, seven carries in six games), but Benson will be the focal point. Note than in Benson's final year at the University of Texas, he averaged 27.2 carries — more than he was averaging through eight games (24.8).
