The Eagles received a double dose of bad news at cornerback Wednesday.
Eagles CB-KR Ellis Hobbs requires neck surgery and will be placed on injured reserve, head coach Andy Reid said today.
And the NFL announced that Joselio Hanson, the man who would have replaced him at nickel back, will serve a four-game suspension for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.
Hobbs was the Eagles’ nickel back and primary kick returner. The nickel job likely will go to Dimitri Patterson. Reid said the KR job will be handled by a combination of Quintin Demps, Jeremy Maclin and Macho Harris.
To take Hobbs’ spot on the roster, the Eagles signed CB Ramzee Robinson, who came in for a visit and workout on Tuesday and signed a contract this morning.
Hanson’s suspension begins immediately. His spot will be taken by Jack Ikegwuonu, who is allowed to join the team by a roster exemption until Hanson returns. Hanson will be eligible to return to the active roster on Monday, Dec. 7, following the team’s Dec. 6 game against the Falcons.
