The Chiefs activated third-year pro RB Kolby Smith from the physically-unable-to-perform list Saturday and released veteran WR Bobby Engram.
Smith gives Kansas City more experience behind RB Jamaal Charles, who is expected to start Sunday against Jacksonville in place of suspended RB Larry Johnson. Smith, who had been sidelined since suffering a knee injury in Week Nine last season, has gained 507 yards on 147 carries in 23 NFL games and nine starts, whereas Charles has only 90 carries for 473 yards during his two-year career.
Engram, who had joined the Chiefs in March, hasn't caught a pass since Week Four and didn't play in two of the last three games. His role had been reduced since the Chiefs signed Bobby Wade in September, and earlier this week the team signed ex-Chargers WR Chris Chambers.
