The Patriots released eighth-year veteran OG Kendall Simmons on Friday.

Simmons appeared in only one game after signing with New England on Sept. 6, and he played only on special teams. The 30-year-old was deactivated for the other six games.

Simmons spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Steelers before tearing an ACL in Week Four last year. He had started 29 consecutive games prior to sustaining the injury, and he started all 80 games he played in for Pittsburgh after being selected in the first round of the 2002 draft.
