The Chad Henne era hit a sizable speed bump in Week Seven, when the Dolphins blew a 24-3 lead in a loss to the Saints. Henne completed just 18-of-36 passes and both of his interceptions were returned for touchdowns.
Despite that devastating loss, the transition to a new starter under center has been a relatively smooth one, WR Greg Camarillo recently told PFW.
"I've been working with (Henne) for almost two years when you think about it and you build trust and you build chemistry through time," he said. "We've spent enough time where we've started that relationship."
No Miami receiver has more receptions than Camarillo since Henne replaced the injured Chad Pennington in Week Four. The fourth-year veteran has hauled in 12 grabs for 130 yards in that span, although he said his connection with Henne still isn't as strong as it was with Pennington. Camarillo, who has started 17 of the last 17 games in which he has played, is second on the team in receptions with 19 for 174 yards.
"I would say my bond with Pennington was (stronger) just because we spent more games playing together, but Chad Henne did a great job of learning what made Pennington so successful," Camarillo said. "I think one thing he picked up was spreading the ball around and how that helps out an offense. I think our ability to hit the different targets or hit whoever's open hasn't changed with the quarterback and that's key. … Henne has great vision of the field and he makes the right decisions and he hits the open guy."
Henne, a second-year veteran, is clearly in more of a game-manager role at this point and he faltered vs. New Orleans when he was forced to go to the air when playing from behind. Camarillo indicated that Henne's performance this season will largely be based on how the pieces around him play.
"Can he perform at a high level for the rest of the season is what people are going to watch (for)," Camarillo said. "The team has full confidence in him, I have full confidence in him, I know the receivers have full confidence in him, but his performance is really based on how well everybody does as a group.
