Seahawks head coach Jim Mora announced today that veteran OLT Walter Jones will be placed on injured reserve, ending a season that never got started because of lingering pain in his surgically repaired left knee.
“After much deliberation and evaluation and soul searching between the team, the medical staff and Walter Jones, it has been determined that the best thing to do for Walter, for this football team and for his future is to put him on injured reserve,” Mora said of the nine-time Pro Bowler.
“We’re going to shut him down. We’re going to let him heal up, have whatever procedures our medical staff feels is necessary and then (have him) re-evaluated early next year.”
Mora also said that Seahawks MLB Lofa Tatupu is in Alabama meeting with Dr. James Andrews to have his damaged left pectoral examined, and that a decision as to whether Tatupu will need season-ending surgery will be determined soon.
Mora also said that QB Matt Hasselbeck will not practice Wednesday because of pain in his fractured rib but was expected to be able to start Sunday against Dallas.
Also, former University of Washington RB Louis Rankin has been added to the 53-man roster, filling the spot that opened when Jones was placed on injured reserve.
Damion McIntosh, who has been with the team for only three weeks, is expected to become the fourth different left tackle to start for Seattle this season (not counting Jones) when he takes the field against the Cowboys.
