The Packers placed promising first-year WR Brett Swain on injured reserve Tuesday afternoon and replaced him on the active roster with Jake Allen, who was promoted from the team’s practice squad. The team also signed WR Biren Ealy and WR Patrick Williams to the practice squad and released OG Stanley Daniels from the practice squad.
Swain, considered to be an ascending player by the Packers organization, had played in all six games this season and was expected to begin seeing more action in the team’s deep and talented WR rotation before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the Week Seven victory over Cleveland. Allen, who has excellent size (6-4, 196 pounds), spent the season’s first seven weeks on the Packers’ practice squad after spending the entire ’08 season there.
