Jets WR Braylon Edwards was charged with misdemeanor assault on Monday, according to a Cleveland Plain Dealer report. The charge stems from an incident that occurred outside of a Cleveland night club a few weeks ago before Edwards was traded from the Browns to the Jets.
Edwards is alleged to have punched entertainment promoter Edward Givens, a friend of the Cavaliers' LeBron James, outside of the View Ultralounge and Nightclub. Edwards could face six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if he's convicted.
The fifth-year veteran has made 19 catches for 257 yards and a touchdown in seven games — four with the Browns and three with the Jets.
