The Jets won their game in Oakland on Sunday, but they may have lost a key weapon on offense and special teams.
RB-RS Leon Washington broke his fibula at the end of a six-yard run in the first quarter of the Jets' 38-0 victory and he was carted to the locker room after being helped to the sideline. Head coach Rex Ryan told reporters Washington will have surgery on Sunday or Monday morning, and the injury appeared to be severe. He's likely to miss the rest of the season.
Washington was a change-of-pace back and the team's kick returner. His absence will result in more snaps for backup RB Shonn Greene, who had 19 carries for 144 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday. Washington will be a free agent this offseason.
