Attempting to turn down the increasing heat on his beleaguered head coach, Redskins executive vice president of football operations Vinnie Cerrato announced on his Friday morning radio show that Jim Zorn’s job is safe the rest of the season. Zorn, who has one year left on a three-year deal with the team, has been widely rumored to be on his way out with his team having fallen to the bottom of the NFC East with a disappointing 2-4 record.
Zorn gave up his offensive play-calling duties at the team’s request to former longtime NFL assistant Sherman Lewis after the Redskins loss to the previously winless Chiefs — a move that many thought might signal his fate as the Redskins’ head coach. But Cerrato, who many think is also under heat, has apparently given Zorn a vote of confidence in advance of the Redskins’ game against the division-rival Eagles on a national stage this coming Monday night at FedEx Field.
