For all of the lamenting about the Browns' offensive woes, the problems on defense are just as glaring — and they will not be any easier to solve with steady and productive ILB D'Qwell Jackson lost for the season with a shoulder injury. Jackson, who had 59 tackles in just six games, is likely to be replaced by the swift but small rookie Kaluka Maiava, who did fare well in extended action in place of Jackson in Week Six. Nonetheless, Jackson's quickness and instincts have made him an integral part of the defense, and his absence is likely to be felt in all facets. The run defense has been utterly gashed at points this season, and the pass defense was left reeling after the Steelers completed nine passes for 20 yards or more in Week Six. It was exactly the sort of performance that might lead to lineup changes, but the loss of Jackson was the last thing the Browns needed.
