Titans DLE Jevon Kearse was a healthy scratch in Week Five vs. Indianapolis, a clear signal that second-year pro William Hayes has moved ahead of him in the pecking order and potentially a sign that this season, the final on Kearse’s two-year contract, will be his last with Tennessee. Hayes, a fourth-round pick in the 2008 draft known for his burst off the edge, has notched 16 tackles and 1½ sacks this season. Kearse, who had just three tackles and one sack in Tennessee’s first four games, didn’t watch the Colts-Titans game from the sideline and left LP Field after hearing he would be inactive. However, in something of a surprise, head coach Jeff Fisher didn’t fine Kearse, and the 11-year veteran did not apologize for his actions. Nevertheless, Kearse’s demotion appears permanent, with the Titans ready to see what Hayes can do with the starting job.
