Weeks after Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris publicly challenged underachieving DE Gaines Adams, GM Mark Dominik struck a deal with his former boss Jerry Angelo that sends the 2007 fourth overall selection to Chicago in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2010 NFL draft.
Adams has started 29 games, totaling 124 tackles, 13½ sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, 13 batted balls and a fumble recovery in his career and has shown big-time flashes of emerging as a pass rusher in his short career.
He figures to benefit from the presence of Bears assistant head coach and DL coach Rod Marinelli, who has a track record of developing elite talent with coachability issues, such as Simeon Rice and Warren Sapp, into Pro Bowl-caliber players. Having played in much the same scheme that the Bears currently run, Adams should transition very quickly to the Bears' defense and could see action Sunday night against the Falcons.
