Nickel CB Eric King's shoulder injury will end his season, but that's just the start of the Lions' secondary problems. The team actually is performing worse in the secondary, allowing opposing quarterbacks to complete 73.3 percent of their passes this season as opposed to 68.4 in 2007, and head coach Jim Schwartz says a change is needed. In the first five games, the Lions used four different combinations — including William James replacing Phillip Buchanon at right cornerback and then Buchanon replacing Anthony Henry on the left side. Schwartz said his secondary also needs to tackle better on run plays. Expect the nickel spot, as well as strong safety, where Marquand Manuel has played mostly, to be the spots that are most fluid. Ko Simpson and Marvin White, who have been added since the start of the season, could be the recipients of more time, as could Kalvin Pearson, who filled in for King after he was injured in Week Five.
