Two lukewarm defensive performances in a row have many wondering if too much was made of Rex Ryan's aggressive, in-your-face system too early. After all, it's one thing for the Saints' high-powered offense to take it to task; it's another thing entirely for the Dolphins and first-year starting QB Chad Henne to rip through it. The way we hear it, much of the problem has centered around inconsistencies on the defensive line, which is the unit that all of Ryan's defensive disciples maintain the scheme is centered around. But placing the blame squarely on them would be unfair, because players at linebacker and, even more so, in the secondary have been caught up a bit too much in the flying, upfield penetration that Ryan green-lights, and have been caught out of position too often. Even outstanding CB Darrelle Revis was guilty a couple of times of playing too aggressively against Miami and was guilty of mistakes.
