Controversial political commentator Rush Limbaugh has been officially removed from consideration as a potential part-owner of the Rams. Limbaugh, who recently revealed his involvement in a group headed by St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts to buy the Rams, has been dropped from the group.
“It has become clear that (Limbaugh’s) involvement in our group has become a complication and a distraction to our intentions, endangering our bid to keep the team in St, Louis,” Checketts said in a statement issued to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “As such, we have decided to move forward without him and hope it will eventually lead us to a successful conclusion.”
At the NFL owners' meetings taking place in Boston, both NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Colts owner Jim Irsay indicated that they would not be in favor of Limbaugh being part of an ownership group trying to bid for the Rams, based on a number of well-documented controversial statements he has made in the past.
