The Raiders are quickly becoming irrelevant with each lopsided loss, and most of the attention paid to the club these days focuses on head coach Tom Cable's troubling legal situation. While in Boston for an owners' meeting, commissioner Roger Goodell said Cable could be punished if he's charged with any crimes stemming from a training-camp incident. Former Raiders assistant Randy Hanson alleged that Cable attacked him, broke his jaw and threatened to kill him on Aug. 5. Goodell will withhold any judgment until the Napa County district attorney completes his review of the case, which could take anywhere from a few more days to a few more weeks, but Cable has maintained his innocence since the allegations came out. Sources say Oakland would turn to one of its veteran assistant coaches to handle head-coaching duties if Cable is suspended. Passing-game coordinator Ted Tollner and quarterbacks coach Paul Hackett are two who will be considered.
