The Saints cleared a roster spot for PK Garrett Hartley, who returned from a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy, by waiving rookie QB Chase Daniel late Monday.
Daniel was on the Saints' practice squad before he was called up to the active roster and the team will likely try to claim him to the squad again if no other team picks him up.
New Orleans will keep two kickers on its roster for the time being, as John Carney will continue to handle the place-kicking duties unless head coach Sean Payton changes his mind and turns things over to Hartley, who did not miss a field goal in all eight games he appeared in last season.
